A little Hibou Ring

I found the cutest thing ever at ModCloth. Its an Hibou with spectacles!! If you didn’t know this already, “hibou” is french for “owl”, so thats who our blog character is. I love little owls, to me they represent wit which is one of the most valuable qualities I find in a person (among others, like kindness, don’t think I am coldhearted). I’m going to go ahead and call out my dorkyness quoting Rowena Rawenclaw: “Wit beyond measure is man’s greatest treasure”. Also I feel identified with the owls as being quiet and nocturne, I do my best work at night, I don’t really function properly at day time (which I know its not very convenient). Also, The owl represents Athena, the goddess of wisdom and battle strategy. I’ve always found Athena to be the most interesting of all the Olympian Gods, she could do some serious scheming. And even without those qualities, the owls have the cutest shape with those huge eyes and tiny beak. So, I hope you like it!

What are your thoughts on owls? Do you have an animal that represents you or that symbolizes something you believe in? Leave me your comments!

Some Greek Thoughts

In the beginning there was only chaos… Thats how the greeks stated the only event every creation theory actually has in common. It was one of the first attempts of trying to explain where everything comes from and to understand the complexities of nature.  Wouldn’t it be amaizing if actually all of it were true! It is just so facinating to imagine there is a god behind every element and that they each have humanlike feelings and qualities. What we don’t realize is that in a way, those tales are actually based on real life. The Greeks invented drama that’s for sure, talk about reality tv or soap opera material! When talking about players, Barney Stinson, Charlie Harper and even Chuck Bass don’t stand a chance! Zeus can eat them alive (not just literally of course). Hooking up with women in the form of a bull or a swan and gods know what else, thats just impossible!! challenge accepted (i can just hear barney saying that right now). Greek myths are very twisted in nature, but what i like about them is that behind all of the fantasy, there is a realistic interpretation of human personalities and emotions. The people in the stories may do crazy things, sometimes awful things, and even when they do heroic things is usually for their own selfish reasons. i mean seriously, to actually start a war that destroyed an entire city just because Helen cheated on Menelaus (king of Sparta) clearly you do not wanna mess with this guy. Well the thing is that Thats what sets this stories appart, no one at any time is trying to hide the dirty laundry; deep down behind the supernatural, we get to learn about real people dealing with problems the human way, and we sure aren’t perfect. In fact, the common theme found in all the stories is that everybody had fatal flaws, even the gods. This was the begining of story telling. i don’t know what went through the minds of the Greeks way back (no idea seriously), but the reactions and emotions that the characters reflect are the same as of the people a hundred years later and the same as they are now. If you think scheming is in right now just read about what Hera did when she was jealous and wanted to send the message that no one could step over her, she would probably make Queen B cry! Greek Mythology is also just called classic myths for a reason, they started it all! After that we see the same themes repeating themselves; they just evolved according to the era but the esence is still there, becausep we are all humans and we can relate to the same feelings. They tried to explain how it all started, and even though their stories are far from true and do not really explain nature in any way near to a scientific point of view, they actually gave the starter point to what our culture is and specially to self expression and communication.
