Vintage fashion inspiration: the 50′s

“Fashion fades, style is forever.” Coco Chanel.

Chanel said that because she did not want her label to be called “the Chanel fashion” because her concept was to create a style that would last forever. While fashion changes very quickly, it also has another characteristic that is very peculiar. Fashion is cyclical, meaning it comes and goes throghout the ages. Everything comes back, so I decided to use old photography to get inspiration for outfits that are trendy today.

To make it more interesting, I’m using old pictures from my family, meaning that this is how normal people dressed back then. This picture was taken somewhere around the late 40′s or early 50′s I’m not very sure. And I notice that they used a trend that is very in these days which is the high waisted pants and flowy blouse. Let me just say that in my opinion, my grandma was very trendy (the first one from the right), she could definitely pull this of. I think she’s also wearing oxfords but I’m not sure about that.
Here are some pieces that would form this outfit:

A little Hibou Ring

I found the cutest thing ever at ModCloth. Its an Hibou with spectacles!! If you didn’t know this already, “hibou” is french for “owl”, so thats who our blog character is. I love little owls, to me they represent wit which is one of the most valuable qualities I find in a person (among others, like kindness, don’t think I am coldhearted). I’m going to go ahead and call out my dorkyness quoting Rowena Rawenclaw: “Wit beyond measure is man’s greatest treasure”. Also I feel identified with the owls as being quiet and nocturne, I do my best work at night, I don’t really function properly at day time (which I know its not very convenient). Also, The owl represents Athena, the goddess of wisdom and battle strategy. I’ve always found Athena to be the most interesting of all the Olympian Gods, she could do some serious scheming. And even without those qualities, the owls have the cutest shape with those huge eyes and tiny beak. So, I hope you like it!

What are your thoughts on owls? Do you have an animal that represents you or that symbolizes something you believe in? Leave me your comments!

Francesca’s Collection: Scholarly Concepts

I recently discovered this new store and I completely fell in love with everything they sell. It is Francesca’s Collection. You have probably heard of it, since I now realized it has many boutiques all over America. The style is a mix between bohemian, girly and mod. And the best part is that it is super affordable, dresses are $44, and tops are $34. Other apparel items are around those same prices.

Here is the Look Book for their new fall collection called Scholarly Concepts, its to die for! My favorite look is the last one, it is very much my style.
