The Other New York

Old New york, Neue New York, Same as always New York. I think this city is timeless, yet it is not stuck in time. New York as a whole will always be the same, but there are many different cities within, and I am not talking about the bouroughs. You have the tourist I <3 NY, the hipster, the high fashion, the gossip girl ues, the theater, the high society, the hood, the business powerhouse, and I could go on forever. Now, I have been there in 3 different ways, the obvious tourist site seeing, family visiting at Long Island and Staten Island, and I dipped my toes unto the fashion district. By dipping my toes I mean I went into fabric stores like “Mood” looking for the perfect material for my coming out party dress, so that may not completely count. I still do not comprehend why I never set foot in the Met or MoMA, or why I never saw a show at the Lincoln Center. I have been dreaming of a New York filled with art, design and new discoveries, I want to buy from tiny boutiques and walk the streets of the village. When I get an idea into my head I just can’t take it away, this longing kept me awake for days. Today (maybe Sandy had something to do with this) I found a huge discount on a plane ticket the exact dates I had my job vacations, direct flight to JFK, I couldn’t resist. Call it fate or give credit to a very good travel agent, but with no plans or a place to stay yet, I’m headed to New York on march!!

Gossip Girl Season 5 Fashion Preview

CW Gossip Girl shared this preview pictures on its Facebook page today, and let me just I’m as excited as anyone. The summer outfits are always my favorites during the series, they are always so colorful and breezy. We are seeing a lot of color blocking, maxi skirts, and off course the lovely high waisted skirts. As for the boys, oh my, they look amazing, more laid back and guy looking (sometimes they dress them up so much they look like models, and real guys don’t dress like that). The only thing I don’t understand is Blair’s gown. It looks like a table cloth or I don’t even know what but it looks really bad, the pattern is ugly and the shape is awkward. I hope we get to see her amazing day time ensembles as she strolls through Monte Carlo. We also get to see Elizabeth Hurley in this pictures, her outfits are very plain, sort of just body-con simple. I like how they make Serena look very “California Girl” which it is actually where she is from, so she looks very natural in those outfits. Surprisingly my favorite outfits from this pictures are from Serena and not Blair, here they are:

Oh and I forgot to mention, Charlie’s outfit is just awful I don’t even know how to describe it. But I guess it goes with her character being an outsider, its more realistic.

And this would be my favorite outfit. Elegant but laid back at the same time, well done boho chic. I adore the red maxi skirt and her chunky bracelets. She looks better like this, instead of those ubermini skirts and super cleavage that she had on previews seasons.

That’s all they gave us for now. I am getting very anxious to see the premier, hope you are too! Comment on your thoughts on this outfits :)

Icon: Blair Waldorf

I know that normally fashion icons are real people, but in this case I chose the character Blair Waldorf because we can’t really say Leighton Meester dresses herself with this much style. When I started watching Gossip Girl I didn’t really have a sense of personal style, but then I completely fell in love with the high waisted skirts and headbands. I was like one of the minions, I worshiped Blair’s style and tried to copy it exactly (with waaay more affordable pieces). But as I started growing up and I learned more about style and fashion, I developed my own style which is more me. But never the less I still look for inspiration in Blair, and try to mix things up with things that go more according to my personality (Im more laid back than Queen B). Since season 5 is around the corner, I though I would show you my favorite outfits from season 4: (more…)
